Views on Artificial Intelligence - Tech News #2

Technology companies such as Google, Microsoft, Facebook, etc. are including Artificial Intelligence into their businesses and developing it as one of the main technologies of future. Their priorities have changed from Mobile-First to AI-First.

Artificial Intelligence

Some people, for example Google's Sundar Pichai, are telling that Artificial Intelligence is going to be more important to humanity than electricity and fire. Pichai said to Recode "AI is one of the most important things humanity is working on." He said, "It’s more profound than, I don’t know, electricity or fire,". He also said "It’s fair to be worried about AI," and "We don’t want to just be optimistic about it. We want to be thoughtful about it."

While others like Elon Musk of OpenAI are of the view that unregulated development of Artificial Intelligence will be a threat to humanity. Elon Musk has said "AI is a fundamental risk to the existence of human civilization,". He has also said "AI is a rare case where I think we need to be proactive in regulation than be reactive,".

Development of Artificial Intelligence

The first type of AI is in existence today which is known as weak or narrow intelligence. A weak AI is designed to do highly specific tasks, for example, voice recognition, image recognition, object recognition, and chat bots.

The second type of AI is known as strong AI or artificial general intellience. Although, at the time of writing this article, there is no known AI which can be considered to be a strong AI. A strong AI is believed to be having intelligence at a level which can be compared to human beings.

Technological singularity or artificial superintelligence. Artificial superintelligence is the concept of a machine which will be intelligent enough to comprehend its own functioning and to improve upon itself to create better future versions. This will lead to artificial superintelligence or technological singularity having much more intelligence compared to human beings.
